Supervisor: Director of Preservation and Digital Services
 
Summary: Coordinates the imaging of state records, manuscripts collections, and newspapers for long-term preservation on microfilm, long-term digital preservation, and/or online public access.

Duties/Responsibilities
  • Supervises and trains staff working on imaging projects, specifically digital imaging and workflows on a variety of scanning equipment.
  • Creates documentation and training materials for imaging projects, equipment, and workflows.
  • Reviews imaging output for quality assurance.
  • Coordinates transfers of images for microfilm creation, public access, or preservation storage.
  • Assist the section director with setting imaging standards for projects, selecting long-term preservation formats for resulting images. 
  • Collects and maintains statistics, reports, and other metrics to asses and improve imaging workflows. 
  • Reviews options and makes recommendations for equipment purchases.
  • Develops and maintains professional skills by participating in continuing education and professional development activities such as conferences, workshops, and committee work; conducting research or writing for publication; or engaging in other creative and learning activities.
  • Stays current on developing technologies, standards, and practices relevant to the access to and preservation of digital material; recommends responses to these developments through periodic alerts, summaries, reports, and revisions to policies and procedures.
  • Other duties will be assigned as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
  • Master’s degree in Library/Information Sciences, Archives Management, Public History, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • A minimum of three years of experience working with archival collections, library special collections, or records management, two years of supervisory experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in archival arrangement and description required.
  • Demonstrated digitization project management experience is required.
  • Experience with Preservica is preferred.
Knowledge and Abilities:
  • Evidence of supervisory skills with demonstrated ability to manage heavy and complex workloads using considerable judgment and initiative in support of digital processes.
  • Knowledge of library data systems, computer software, bibliographic and authority control. Knowledge of trends impacting libraries, archives, and technology, particularly regarding digitization and digital preservation. Knowledge of the lifecycle management of digital material.
  • Experience using and managing an archival collection management system and/or a digital preservation system, preferably Preservica.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of archival theory, government records, and handling of special collections.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills combined with attention to detail for complex, detail-oriented work. 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to work collegially are essential.
  • Ability to work in confined quarters and dusty or damp conditions for extended periods of time during the examination of neglected records storage
  • Ability to lift and carry boxes of books and records weighing up to forty pounds up flights of stairs.
Salary: $60,000 annually plus the State of Tennessee benefits package.
